Here is mine: the Townshend Acts were passed in 1767 by the British Parliament, after being proposed by Charles Townshend, as Chancellor of the Exchequer, just before his death. These laws placed a tax on common products, such as lead, paper, paint, glass, and tea (although not a tax on silk). In contrast to the Stamp Act of 1765, laws were not a tax direct, but a tax on imports. The Townshend Acts created three new admiralty courts to try Americans who ignored the law. The acts sparked outrage between the colonists and helped spark the "Freedom" seizure and riots of 1768. The opposition in the 13 colonies was shown with the slogan: "No taxation without representation, "originally spoken by James Otis. The smugglers to avoid taxes on imports of goods without taxes and organization a boycott of the legitimate imports. Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty of Boston were notable supporters of this boycott. The economic pressure of the boycott caused several entities in Britain to push for the repeal. Finally, John Dickinson (1732-1808) raised the support to repeal the Townshend Acts by a series of 12 cards before him himself as "The Farmer". The act only thing left is the tax on tea. The Tea Act designed to protect British East India Company tea trade by exempting it from three pence tax on tea. Thererby, the British East India Company lower than the prices of other importers that lead to negative economic consequences for American settlers and the Boston Tea Party. The Daughters of Liberty protested against taxes as well. [Edit] Act Townshend: text. The States history United article is a stub.
