Should I put a heat lamp in my chicken?
Around here, fall down to 20 degrees, and only descends from there recently It seems that my chickens have been cold, huddled to live in the shed, and I changed the lighting of a compact fluorescent lamp with an infrared heat. What do you think of this? I heard that if the power is broken, it will die very quickly. I do not know whether the addition of a heat lamp is a good risk take. What do you suggest?
Chickens naturally huddle at night when resting. I've had chickens for over 30 years. I have never used the heat adult birds. As long as your house is reasonably free of drafts, they will do well at temperatures much colder than that. The only problem is that sometimes Combs to freeze. This will not kill them, but it looks bad and I guess it's painful for them.
