What are the differences between the window treatments and curtains?

All I want is some clarity. I'm the type of person who was upset by the imprecise language, especially when it is within my own industry. You see, my job is to write about the blinds and curtains and the terms, treatments windows and walls are joked about all the time with little regard to its real meaning.

I decided to do some research and get a definitive answer I want to share with the public. I'm hoping to create a kind of revolution I just want to shed some light on a couple of nice words nebulae.

In First, I went to the line of Merriam-Webster and found nothing, there is no definition of either word. How could that be? These terms are quite common. This is confusing to me. I use an online tool in my work that tells me how many times a day the Internet for public use keywords. The word window treatments is used about 2,600 per day and covers the window the word is used about 625 per day. Yet, these words are not clearly defined. I have the feeling of a conspiracy – just kidding.

My next action was Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia with descriptions and explanations written by ordinary people. I found the following entries:

A window covering material used to cover a window to reduce sunlight to provide additional weather resistance, or to ensure privacy. Window Coverings are usually on the inside of the windows, but can be outside in some situations. Types covered include: curtains, blinds including: Venetian blinds, mini blinds, shutters, vvarious shipping rates, nailed or screwed to the frame the window can be used as temporary window covering.

In the interior, a window product that can refer to any of the following elements curtains or shades, including curtains, blinds, including Venetian, a border, clamps to hold the curtains are placed on or near a window. Also may include treatments applied directly to the glass, including: ground glass (through acid etching, sandblasting, or plastic films or panels) deformed optics, such as wavy glass, stained glass panels or ornaments.

I think, based on these two entries there is little difference between their meanings. Both include blinds, curtains and venetian blinds (an old term for what is now commonly known as mini blinds). When it seems that out, at least according to these descriptions is that the window coverings including blinds (in this case plantation shutters) and window treatments can include treatments for glass.

Both have the basic meaning of something to decorate or cover a window for privacy and light control (dimming of the room) and to emphasize the decoration of a room. So basically what we have here are two ill-defined words are virtually the same meaning. So I would like make a request for personal decision on this issue and say that window treatments should be no type of treatment: blinds curtains and blinds inside (Inside) part of a window while the window coverings of any treatment should be: blinds, shutters and awnings to the exterior of a window. That seems more clear to me. It does not mean that everyone is suddenly going to go in my car for the definition, but you can expect.

There you have it the non-definitive definition of window treatments and window coverings. I think I will do my masters thesis on this earth-shattering subject. – David Brooks
