The Face Lift-understanding the different procedures

If you are considering a facelift or other resurfacing procedure facial, it is important to understand what a face lift can and can not reach and the many variations in face lift technique that are designed to correct variations facial aging individual appearing in different face. Different types of face lift procedures

There are many names used to describe a face lift that can be very confusing for you the patient. Terms such as lifting weekend, mini lifts, S, non-surgical facelift, thread lift, lifestyle lift are often used and it is difficult for you the patient know what these terms mean. Then I'll try to describe the variations of the facelift procedure we hope to shed some light on this item for you.

The standard face lift

The standard face lift involves an incision around the ear and skin undermining or release of loose face deeper facial accessories. Once the skin is free to move is to press back to a younger and more normal position in the face and the excess Skin is removed from the area around the ear and close the incision. Studies have cast doubt on whether SMAS lift provides a more, but most face lifts today include some modifications to the SMAS.

The SMAS means "system superficial muscular aponeurotic "and describes a strong layer of fibrous tissue beneath the facial skin that attaches the skin of the face to the underlying facial muscles. When this tissue is tightened during a facelift face additional firming is achieved.

The classic face lift is below the SMAS dissection and elevation SMAS layer, resection of part of the excess and suturing the SMAS layer to tighten.

I achieve the same effect by "plication" SMAS layer which means that do not undermine the layer below, but the layer of times on itself with a suture to tighten the SMAS.

The Extended SMAS Lifting

The deep plane facelift

Fair results were obtained with the originator of this procedure, Dr. Sam Hamra of Texas. Others have experienced an increase in the incidence of nerve injury. My own experience is that while excellent results are possible, some patients find unacceptable change in the appearance of your mouth.

Some studies have shown that the technique of SMAS plication mentioned above provides excellent cosmetic results.

Subperiosteal facelift

The subperiosteal face lift involves less undermining of the deepest layer of the face adjacent to the bone. This technique is designed to enhance and strengthen all the loose soft tissue in the face. The theory holds that undermine the area near the bone, deep to the nerves, also helps prevent nerve damage. The nerves can still be harmed by this deep dissection blind. The subperiosteal face lift is an extensive operation and in my experience offers no advantage over the standard facelift with SMAS appeasement

The Lateral Brow Lift

The lateral brow lift is a modification face lift to treat lax and sagging of the upper third of the face, the outside of the brow and upper cheek. An incision is made in or on line hair on the side of the forehead, the skin is weakened, tensed and remove excess.

This technique can be effective when only the side or lateral potion brow and upper cheek are lax. However care must be taken to prevent displacement of the hairline and injury to the frontal branch of the facial nerve in case The injury may cause the bend in front.

The Forehead Lift

The brow lift is a procedure rarely do since the advent of Botox. The proper use of Botox can correct most of the laxity of the forehead caused by the contraction of the muscles of the forehead and face lift correct standard most lateral laxity against the outside of the eyebrow.

The mid face lift or cheek lift is designed to tighten the cheeks and help improve the nasal labial fold lines. This is a modified face lift consisting of an incision along the fold on the front of the top of the ear extending up into the hairline.

The cheek lift or mid face lift is effective for people with laxity in the cheek and nasal labial fold lines, but no laxity along the jawline and neck.

The cheek lift or mid face lift is becoming very popular among young patients presenting with facial laxity principles in midface. Cheek fallen is often the first changes to facial aging, and younger patients are choosing to have a midface lift or cheek lift before facial droop, extending to the neck and chin are produced.

The neck lift

The neck lift is designed to tone the skin of the neck under the jawline and chin. The neck lift is a good choice for younger patients who only have loose skin under the chin and jawline.

In some cases, a neck lift can be achieved through a small incision under the chin, which is well hidden. This procedure is also called a platysmaplasty platysmaplasty or corset. In some cases with more laxity of the neck of a large incision behind the ear is also required.

The short-scar face lift

The Mini Lift

The mini lift or mini face lift means many things to many people. Most commonly the term is used by minilifting patients who want a facelift, but I will not call it a face lift!

For me, a mini face lift procedure is smaller than standard face lift and is useful in patients who have early facial laxity in the cheek and chin with no broad neck laxity.

In general, I can use a short scar and a scar above along the upper fold of the ear in the hairline.

The mini lift or mini face lift is a less extensive procedure and it works well for patients younger and older patients with minimal facial laxity.

The Lifestyle Lift

Include lifestyle lift here because many people ask me about it. I only know what I read. I have not trained nor have I ever done or seen a lift style life done. I have seen patients who claim to have had a lifestyle lift. As advertised the lifestyle lift is performed without general anesthesia or IV sedation and indicating that the recovery is less than a traditional face lift.

The non-surgical facelift

When most people use the term non-surgical facelift is stretching the skin with various new skin tightening machines. Some misuse of the term, applied to injections of extensive soft tissue filler

The newest skin tightening technology uses radio frequency energy or infrared energy to heat the deep layers the skin to cause contraction and tightening, but first the skin is cooled before power is applied to avoid injury and ablation of superficial skin thermal energy. Thus, the skin is tightened but the surface is not removed, thus stretching the nonablative skin. There is no downtime after non-ablative skin tightening unlike the older CO2 laser resurfacing skin tightening.

Several machines of the new skin tightening are available. The LuxIR by Palomar and Cutera Titan uses infrared energy for skin tightening. The Aluma by Lumenis and Thermage uses infrared energy to stretch of the skin. ReFirme by Syneron uses a combination of light with radiofrequency energy for skin tightening.

All machines to achieve results similar when used correctly. In general, there is less hassle with infrared skin tightening machines. Complications have been minimal, although some complications were Thermage serious skin stretching from the beginning.

In my practice I think the non-ablative skin tightening is most useful for patients younger who have no severe aging changes and significant sun damage, people in their 30s and 40s who want to correct or adjust the skin earlier fallen along the jaw line or chin area, neck and cheeks. LuxIR I use in these larger areas. To stretch skin around the eyelids I can use the Aluma which has a smaller head and treatment of a suction device to pull the delicate skin in the chamber periocular Treatment for skin tightening.

The area stretching from the non-ablative skin is in its infancy and definitely will be more effective in coming years. Companies are improving their products frequently. For now though the people who benefit most from the skin stretching machines are now younger people who still have healthy skin thickness with early aging changes.

The term non-surgical facelift stretch to describe non-ablative skin is an exaggeration with the technology available for skin tightening today. In the best possible result is 30% compared to a traditional face lift.

Result Oriented facelift

A facelift can create a really beautiful cool in the face:

The facelift procedure

I can make different types of face lifts designed to meet your specific needs for your unique face.

A face lift good outcome requires an adjustment of the skin and deeper facial tissues sag also with age. When you see a person who has had an elevation face and has the look of surprise, or is too tight, unnatural or as a "weasel" usually means that your surgeon did not tighten the face along the vector case.

Scars

Nobody wants the scars on his face and all the world is concerned about the face lift scars.

Pre OP

Operation

You are asleep during surgery. I have experienced great anesthesiologists who will take care of you. Safety is our first concern. We use modern techniques of anesthesia very safe, and take precautions to prevent nausea after surgery.

After surgery, you will go to the recovery room where a nurse will take care of you and make sure you are comfortable.

Some patients prefer the comfort of an overnight stay in hospital. In this case I will study the next morning, remove two small drainage pipe behind the ear, remove the bandage, and has a shower and comb your hair, and then discharge. When you go home a little handkerchief placed on his head and a pair of sunglasses usually hides the fact that you have had surgery.

For those of you who want to go home the same day after surgery, you will spend two hours in the recovery room with a nurse to care. Post-op What to Expect

My patients do not always complain of pain after a facelift. His face and neck feels tight, which means that I have done my job correctly. I will take an herbal supplement called Arnica Montana before and after surgery to help reduce bruising. I have a great mineral make up cover up cover bruises visible.
