The baptism of Jesus condemn you?
How important is baptism? Most Americans have come to the conclusion that it does not, may be a saved and baptized go to heaven or not. It's like being sentenced to an agreement with the majority of those who are not willing to give the study on time of day. It's ridiculous even consider it as they see it. Only the spiritually blind, only the faction of worship, could think otherwise, from their point of view.
Me think this is taking the same attitude as the Pharisees did in the first century. They had their settled and had no sense that there is a possibility that may be in error. When Jesus came and began to question some of their beliefs and practices that had nothing to do but crucify him because he had not no chance in your mind that I could be wrong in their religion. What he had to say had to be a heresy.
A man must be careful draw conclusions on the spiritual, for once this life is over and the next has begun no turning back for the second time and do it well. No second chances and eternity is long, long time. I would like to see in baptism and want to start with an account that is often overlooked – the baptism of Jesus when John baptized him.
It is true that John's baptism differs from that which the Lord commanded in the great commission as found in Matthew 28 and Mark 16. If I had to be baptized with the baptism of John today I would not be an ounce of good for its time has long since come and gone. However, it was not the case when Jesus came to John to be baptized about 2,000 years ago.
Mark tells us (Mark 1:4 KJV), "John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins." We know Jesus never sinned, and when Jesus comes to John to be baptized John does not dare. In Matthew 3:14 we are told that "John tried to prevent Him, saying: I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me? '"
Now note carefully how Jesus responds. "But Jesus answered and said, "Permit it now because it suits us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he allowed Him. " (Matt. 3:15 KJV)
Why was Jesus baptized? To fulfill all righteousness because that is what it says. What did he mean by that? The answer is found in Psalm 119:172, "My tongue shall speak your word, for all Your commandments are righteousness. "Jesus was baptized, as it was the right thing to do because God had commanded, and all the commandments of God are justice.
In Mat. 21 Jesus is being confronted by the chief priests and elders who want to know by what authority you are doing the things you are doing. The Bible says (Matthew 21:24-26 KJV) "Jesus answered and said, 'I also ask you one thing, that if I say, I tell you by what authority I do these things: The baptism of John, whence was it? From heaven or from men? 'And they reasoned among themselves, saying: "If we say" From heaven, "he will say to us" So why not believe him? "But if we say" man, "we fear the people, for all count John as a prophet. "
Jesus is saying John's baptism must be of God or man, who was that? Jesus believed (knew) that was God and was baptized. The Pharisees did not believe that was God and therefore were not baptized. In the case of Jesus was believed to obedience, in disbelief case the Pharisee, led to disobedience.
In Luke 7 Jesus has been talking about John the Baptist and the Bible says, beginning in verse 29, "And when the people heard him (Jesus – DS), and the publicans justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him. "(KJV) This provides further evidence that John's baptism was from or of God.
The council of God was that men receive the message of John and be baptized. John's message was that men repent and be baptized, a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
The Good News Bible translates Mark 1:4 as follows: "So John appeared in the desert, baptizing and preaching." Depart from your sins and be baptized, "people said," And God will forgive you your trespasses. "This was the message of God to the people who were rejected by the Pharisees, lawyers, the chief priests and elders.
But the Bible says that "even the publicans justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John." (Luke 7:29 NIV) What does "justified" God, how is that done? The New American Standard translation of this verse explains a lot. He says: "And when all the people and the tax-collectors heard this, they recognized the justice of God, having been baptized with the baptism of John."
Part of John's message was that it would not be coming wrath and the way of escape was to repent and be baptized for the remission of sins. When men obeyed the preaching of John who were in the affection for their actions by saying that God was just bringing this wrath upon them unless they repented and obeyed and he was only to demand their repentance and baptism.
Now what does all this have to do with you and me today, with men and women in general? There is a direct application and an argument I believe that nobody can refuse to save his own risk.
Jesus asked the question where does the baptism of John, from God or man. This is the question for you and me today, where did the baptism of Jesus commanded to come from God or man?
Why would it be wrong to reject The baptism of John in his time, but the right to refuse the baptism of Jesus in our time? Jesus made it clear that to reject the baptism of John in his time was reject the counsel of God against themselves. Are we not doing the same today, rejecting the counsel of God against ourselves, when we refuse to be baptized with Jesus' baptism, the baptism of the great commission. If not why not?
You can not reason their way out of this dilemma, but it gets even worse for those who want to reject the baptism. Note that it was a matter of salvation with Jesus as the baptism of John. Are you going to say it's not a matter of salvation today with baptism Jesus?
How much difference in the meaning of the words, "a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins" (Mark 1:4 RV) that talks about the baptism of John and the words "repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins" (Acts 2:38 KJV) that talks about the baptism of Jesus requires in our time? The words sound very similar to me.
I'm saying that both baptisms were identical? No, but the difference was not in the end to be achieved. John's baptism ultimately he would have done any good, Jesus did not die on the cross. In this regard, was expected and a promise. We have this in our daily lives all the time. If I do this, then I promise that even though may be a ways down the road. paychecks are well. We work by faith trusting in the promise that we will pay. This was the baptism of John.
Does this mean that the royal pardon was on the road somewhere place in the future and not immediate? No, because it was a certainty, not just a promise that Jesus would die on the cross. The writing was as good as it did the day which was prophesied in the first place. When Moses and Elijah met Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration of Jesus had not died on the cross. Was salvation hanging in the balance until he died? Asking is responding. So did those who obeyed the teaching of John. His sins were forgiven there John same or lured them said it was for the forgiveness of sins.
The baptism of Jesus has given to man by the great commission was based the fact that Jesus had already died and shed his blood for the forgiveness of sins and salvation of man. The man has to believe in the gospel, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus (1 Cor. 15:1-4). In summary, for a man to receive the baptism of Jesus, we must believe in the historical Jesus, the Savior of world.
If a modern man refuses to obey an order to be baptized refuses to do what Jesus said he was doing when he said "should fulfill all justice. "(Matt. 3:15 KJV) It was noted that all the commands of God are righteousness (Psalms 119:172). If we have a command to be baptized today, to my knowledge all agree that we do, we must obey and comply with all justice? Why is it wrong to follow the example of Jesus?
Does baptism Jesus condemn you? I might as well because when all is said and done it will camp with the Pharisees and other unbelievers who could not accept the word of God at face value, believe and obey, or camping with which he believed and obeyed. You will reject the counsel of God against yourself refuse to be baptized or otherwise I will accept, believe and obey it. Make no mistake about it, because there are too many passages that teach God has ordained baptism for you and me today by making it in a matter of any of us or we will not. We accept your lawyer or to reject it.
Sometimes I'm amazed at how people can just turn off the baptism as a trifle unworthy of time or trouble. This is a reflection on God. is not really what Jesus said way back when – you do not believe God? So many want to be saved by faith today, apart from baptism and can not see, as if blind, that baptism is a part of faith, a part of saving faith. Okay will believe in God or not going to believe when he speaks of baptism in his word. Why is it that we can see this when Jesus addresses the subject of baptism of John, but can not see the direct application to our own response in our time for the baptism of Jesus?
I doubt any of us can fully understand the power exercised the tradition of us when it comes to how we see things and how we think. Add to that the influence of friends and family and hope that is the way we want it is often because of the family. All that in any case the word of God lives and so we are going to do about it is the question. Many have answered "I will not believe" like the Pharisees. I did not believe I did not want to believe. We are more or less end up believing what we believe rather than what to believe.
I close this Now just add one final thought. The decision is yours.
