Long Cold snowy winters – Advice?

How do I choose to live in Southern California all my life to live in Rochester, New York, where stations are REAL with long cold winters? I know the obvious answers are: snow chains for car, cold weather clothing / gear, and a shovel, but to what is difficut? Can anyone shed some light on the snow typical day – from waking in the morning to clean the snow and maintenance of home, in general, when it snows? Do people use salt in its gateways and have heaters in the garage?

Funny, but I'm here at work (in a break, obviously) and just browsing through his questions and thought it was interesting, as it is warm and sunny here today, I clicked on your be very different from Southern California and will take some time to adjust.
