What kind of dog would be a good dog if you wanted one that is small-medium size and is a good watchdog?

I really want a puppy, and finally my parents told me about that, but my mom is being demanding about it. She wants one that is small to medium, which is light enough to embrace and easily pick up a child of 13 years. She wants to be big enough to scare someone like a thief and protector of our house. The skin can not be completely white and not fall off. We want smart, easy to train, has a positive attitude, cheerful, playful but quiet at the right time, not out loud at night, and loves to put in laps and cuddle. Thanks! I understand that every dog sheds, but I'm looking for one that doesn't covered a lot
