I Do not Understand?

My girlfriend and I are in a long distance relationship. He planned to go see it this weekend and accompany her to a the company Halloween party. I just found out I have family who will be in town and may have to cut the weekend short and miss the party for return home. I can understand his disappointment, but she was very upset over the issue. Much more I could have ever expected. He pulled me to the fact this is the only party that would spend together. No answer, but all I could think was that the reason is because she's going home to spend with his family, something I understand perfectly, so how I'm in the wrong for wanting to do the same … especially since I will spend the rest of the holidays alone.
