Recycling and storage advice please … UK?

We recycle whenever possible, but I find it irritating to store huge plastic milk crates and piles of paper in the kitchen … I fill the boxes with hot water and then squeeze them flat .. but we have much by the time the trucks come a once a fortnight …. my garden shed is far from the house with 2 small children I can not go to store i regularly there, so at least in my kitchen in big bags … no …. very conveniant what I can save? What do you do? I do not want it to be cluttering the door to be honest nothing beyond that – I have much the same problems as you – and I'm sick of things cluttering the kitchen!
