A site definition in old world Europe
A site is defined as any gathering of artifacts, ecological data, brand or features localization of human activity in the past. Settlement sites are places where prehistoric and early medieval people were on a temporary or permanent in nature. They can range from temporary camps as the Early Mesolithic site of Star Carr in Yorkshire, where huntergatherers spent a couple of weeks, agricultural villages the High Middle Ages were permanently occupied for several centuries. Prehistoric Europeans also made use of the quarry sites and mines for raw materials such as flint, salt and metal ores. Cemetery sites first appeared in the latest Mesolithic period in northern and eastern Europe. Are sources important information about social organization, gender, and ideology in prehistoric times. Ritual or ceremonial sites, such as megalithic tombs and stone circles, might shed light on prehistoric religion and cosmology. For example, excavations at the site of the Iron Age DĂșn Ailinne in Ireland have shown a series of large wooden circular structures appear to be associated with the late prehistoric kings of Leinster. The site also seems to have served as a center for the ritual feast. In the twentieth century, archaeologists moved beyond the study of individual sites to examine the broader questions prehistoric landscapes. Modern European archaeologists have to do with spatial relationships between archaeological sites from the same period and between individual sites and surrounding geographical features such as lakes, rivers, forests, mountains and valleys. Archaeologists have tried to reconstruct the viewpoints and lines of view of prehistoric monuments. Stonehenge, for example, without doubt, one of the most important of all European prehistory, is located in a region rich agricultural south of England known as the Downs and is surrounded by a number of rich burials, each was covered with a mound of large size.
