Storage shed Foundation – Do not choose the wrong one!

Trying to decide between building your storage shed on a slab of concrete or a wooden base can be a difficult decision. But, there has to be.

There are a few unique differences between the plates and wooden bases. The difference obvious, of course, is that a concrete slab makes the permanent shelter. A wood base allow you to move in case you ever need.

Either way you choose your new unit will serve its purpose. A wooden base (below ground) should use pressure treated wood (aka. Osmose Yellawood, ACQ, etc) which will prevent decay from moisture. Start your foundation by drawing 2 or more runners, which could be 4×4, 6×6, 2×6 or just nails 2 together. The purpose of the runners is to keep your wood floor base so it is not directly the moisture in your building. It also makes its portable shelter, if ever decides to move it. Use bricks or blocks under the runners to level the floor of the shed. This also serves to keep the building from direct contact with moist soil.

The foundation then be attached to the skids with 2×4 or 2×6's, depending on the size of the building and the amount of weight you intend to store in his shed. Design your 2×4 or 2×6 in 2 'measured at the center of the tables. Then you can apply your floor. To the maximum force of 3 / 4 "tongue and wood groove plywood provides a very strong base.

As mentioned before, the construction of his ship in the concrete slab makes it a permanent feature and make sure you choose the location. Concrete slabs are the basis for stronger and more durable able to withstand endless amounts of weight. Sure that in establishing its walls to the slab to the bottom plate (table below the studs that attaches to the slab) is treated wood. Concrete can be a bit of moisture what you want moisture resistant wood used in the source. The rest of the wood for the frame do not have to be treated.

A final point to consider in its decision is think about what to put in your new storage shed. The door of a storage shed with a wood base, as described above, will be 8-10 "or higher land. This means that if you plan to store heavy objects such as a lawnmower, atv, etc. you may need to have a ramp in his shed. Based on concrete usually does not require a ramp. If by chance he did, could be poured at the same time as the base.
